Grand Knights
Message:
Tadd R. Klimmek –
Grand Knight
Vivat Jesus
Brother Knights,
It’s hard to believe but a year
has almost passed since I became Grand Knight and a lot has changed.
Before I get into the changes, I want to first report on the State
Convention in Mackinac last month and our Fall Mentally Impaired Drive
(MI or Tootsie Roll Drive). Join me in congratulating our new State
Officers:
Tom Marcetti Sr – State Deputy Elect
Michael Malinowski – State Secretary Elect
Robert Fox – State Treasurer Elect
Ken Unterbring – State Advocate Elect
Tony Vittorini – State Warden Elect
I also would like to extend a special thank you to State Deputy John “R”
Moody for the last two years of service. State Deputy John “R” Moody has
strengthened the Knights greatly with his countless hours of service and
dedication. His hard work should be appreciated by all.
This years Fall Mentally Impaired Drive was another success. We
collected approximately $5,800.00 on Palm Sunday weekend and donated
equally to six charities. These charities are Mary’s Children Family
Center, St. John’s Hospital Kids on the Go, Down Syndrome Guild of
Southeast Michigan, Rose Hill Center, On my Own of Michigan and St. Alan
Special Needs Catechism. Thank you to everyone who helped out. There are
plans all ready in the works to improve on these collections for next
year. However, we can not continue this success without volunteers.
Please plan appropriately and expect a phone call or email next Palm
Sunday weekend to volunteer.
Next, let’s talk about all the change that has been occurring. First,
Officer Elections were held on 6/8/10 and our new Officers for the
2010-2011 Fraternal Year are:
Grand Knight – SK Tadd R. Klimmek
Deputy Grand Knight – SK Anthony Recchia
Chancellor – Joel Karboske
Recorder – SK Joe Chase
Treasurer – SK Matthew Kennedy
Advocate – SK Rogerio Genio
Warden – SK Joe Guarino
Trustee 3rd Year – SK John Burg
Trustee 2nd Year – SK Terry Kilbride
Trustee 1st Year – SK Otto Soeding
Inside Guard – Harry Jajonie
Outside Guard – Manuel Antonio
Thank you to all our past officers and I look forward to another year
furthering the Knights of Columbus.
Also, I would like to explain some of the other changes that have
occurred in the past year. When the 2009-2010 fraternal year started, we
had approximately 175 members. However, even with 10 new members this
year, our membership now is at approximately 150. As stated in a prior
newsletter, the Council has recently suspended many members for several
years of unpaid dues. This process is now complete but I am fearful that
another round of suspensions for unpaid dues may be necessary. As of
today, there are approximately 20 members with outstanding dues. The
Council is required to pay per capita taxes in the amount of $16.50 per
member regardless if dues are collected. Thus, the Council is all ready
behind $330.00 for these unpaid dues. That is $330.00 that could be used
for a scholarship or to help a seminarian. Every dollar makes a
difference. I need input from the Council on how to proceed with these
members and how to remedy this problem in the future. Please contact me
with any suggestions or comments.
Finally, I would like to extend a special invitation to all Knights to
our end of the fraternal year social meeting. This is planned for
6/22/10 at 7:30 PM in the Shrine Conference Center. This is an informal
social meeting open to everyone and will include food and beverages. In
addition, we also expect to hand out our seminarian RSVP funds, the
Frank and Mary Ward Scholarship award and the MI drive funds to each
charity. Please join us for a fun and festive night of fraternalism.
Thank you to everyone for your help and keep making us great! Vivat
Jesus.

Insurance Update:
WHY DO PEOPLE BUY LIFE INSURANCE?
BECAUSE THEY HAVE CHARACTER…not
because someone might die, because someone must go on living.
BECAUSE THEY LIKE GUARANTEED
THRIFT…not for big returns on their money, but for certain return of
their money.
BECAUSE THEY ENJOY SENDING MONEY
TO THEMSELVES LATER IN LIFE…not to make them rich, but assure
against want.
BECAUSE IT PROVIDES A HEDGE
AGAINST TWO ECONOMIC DISASTERS…dying too soon or living to long.
BECAUSE IF A BANK REFUSES US, THE
INSURANCE COMPANY CAN’T…life insurance provides the only guaranteed
borrowing power when we may need it most.
BECAUSE IT IS A THRIFT PLAN
SUPPORTED BY LOVE…it is a plan most likely to succeed, aided by a
positive plan and an element of compassion.
BECAUSE WE NEED TIME, LIFE
INSURANCE BUYS US TIME…time to complete our plans, turn our
aspirations into realities and to grant our families a future, because
we cannot know how much time has been granted us!

One Nation, Under God
Did you know?
In 1954, Congress after a
campaign by the Knights of Columbus, added the words, 'under God,' to
the Pledge. The Pledge was now both a patriotic oath and a public
prayer.
Pray for our Troops
Please say a
prayer for the safety of those men and women who protect our freedom
with their lives.
