WHERE:           The IHOP Restaurant adjacent to the Shrine Conference Center

Detroit-area IHOP Restaurants have a program to give back 10% from collected meal receipts to local churches and charities. The Shrine Knights of Columbus Council #12408 is collecting the receipts for the benefit of the National Shrine Master Plan.

This ongoing program is a great way to have a good meal and support the National Shrine Master Plan!

Grand Knights Message:

Brothers,

In March we celebrated Palm Sunday and Holy Week. We celebrated the Easter Triduum of Holy Thursday and the Last Supper, Good Friday and the Passion of our Lord, and Holy Saturday. We celebrated the new life Christ brings to us through His rising from the dead on Easter morning. The Octave of Easter concluded with Divine Mercy Sunday.

Now as we celebrate the Season of Easter, we look forward to the Feast of the Ascension on May 4, and the Feast of Pentecost on May 11.

Your Council participated in the 2008 Annual Blue Mass, Religious Formation Soup Supper, 3 Fish Fry Dinners with Council 4188, the 2008 Mentally Impaired Drive, Feed the Poor at All Saints Church, and the Band of Brothers Wrap and Pack.

We wish to congratulate our Brother Knight Rev. Sir Knight Tomasz Maka. Fr. Maka was incardinated into the presbyterate of the Archdiocese of Detroit, effective March 10.  Father Maka, ordained for the Diocese of Plock, Poland, has been serving as associate pastor, St. Patrick Parish, White Lake.

We wish to also congratulate Lady Dawn and Sir Knight Matt Kennedy, Council Treasurer, on the birth of their son Isaac Caleb, April 1st. Isaac weighed in at 7 lbs. 6 oz. and is 20” long. Mother and Baby are doing well, as are Matt, and their 2 sons Jacob and Thomas.

State Convention Basket Raffle

Each year councils, who send representatives to the Michigan State Convention, are encouraged to bring a gift basket to raffle off. The proceeds of the raffle go to support Brother Francis and Holy Cross Children’s Services. The Detroit Free Press will once again match the contribution to Brother Francis raised from the basket raffle. Your council has committed to bringing a basket again this year. The theme of this years basket is “Coffee Break”. We have several items already, including a pound of Espresso Beans, a French Press Coffee Pot, 6 Demitasse Cups and Saucers, 6 Spoons as well as the basket itself. We are in need of additional items, such as a cream and sugar set, any non-perishable coffee related items, a small stove top espresso pot, an inexpensive electric coffee grinder. All items must be received by the April 8th meeting. The basket must be delivered to the State Offices by April15th. If you prefer, monetary contributions will be accepted to help pay for any items that can be purchased to fill in the basket.

Help is needed beginning at 12:00 PM to set up the hall and prep the food. Help is also needed to serve the food from 4:30 – 7:30 PM, and with cleaning up afterward. Please make an effort to attend the Fish Fry’s. Bring your family, or just get a carry out order. Our council receives half of the profit from these events, so every dinner we sell goes to help our bottom line.

Feed the poor at All Saints

Thank you to all who helped with this charity project the day after Easter. The Knights and the Squires once again pooled their charity efforts and  brought a little warmth, cheer, and good food to the poor and homeless of S.W. Detroit. Thank you for the overwhelming gifts of time and charity from all that helped our brothers and sisters in need.

2008 MI Drive

THANK YOU!!!!!

The 2008 MI Drive was held March 14, 15, 16. With all of the scheduling challenges, the misprint on the dates for the Solicitation Permit from the City of Royal Oak, and the economic slow down in the Metro-Detroit area, we were blessed beyond belief. The generosity shown by people who donated was overwhelming. People who donated at our business locations, to Brother Knights who were out on traffic islands, in front of the church, to those who took canisters to work, as well as individual contributions, were generous to a fault. We collected more this year than last year. With the increase we were able to support our three ongoing charities: Kids on the Go, Mary’s Children, and Rose Hill above the level we were last year, and also honor our resolution of support for Brother Francis and his Michael J. McGivney School for Exceptional Children. To all who contributed their time, effort, passion, prayers, and hard earned money, know that you are making a difference in the lives of those who are less fortunate than ourselves.

Rose Hill Visit

Members of the Council will be visiting Rose Hill on April 19th. The drive is about an hour, to Holly, and we will car pool. Anyone interested in going, meet in the Church Parking lot and leave by 9:30 AM. We hope to return by 1:30 PM.
