Grand Knights Message:
It is with great sadness that we said “goodbye” to another member of our council in September. George Walters rather suddenly passed away after battling a prolonged illness. With his sudden passing it made me think of the watch word in the First Degree, “TEMPUS FUGIT, MOMENTO MORI”. With that in mind, I sat down, looked in a mirror and asked myself, what am I doing with the time I have? Another moving experience was hearing Brother Francis from Holy Cross Children’s Services speak. Brother Francis talked about showing acts of love to our fellowman, especially the poor. He kept saying “what would Jesus do”. The saying God works in mysterious ways, came true later that evening. On my way home, I stopped at a fast food drive thru to get something to drink. A young gentleman came up to me and asked for 50 cents to make a call. I told him if I had enough change I would help. After I paid for my item, I went to drive away and saw the man. I handed him the 50 cents he requested, much to his surprise. All I could think of was; “what would Jesus do?” Normally I would have just gone on my way. Was it a coincidence, fate, or was it a test or sign from Jesus? So truly God works in mysterious ways, we just need to keep our ears open and listen. As we move into the last two months of the year, let us pray that we open our ears and really LISTEN to God and each other.
Vivat Jesus!
John Iannotti, Grand Knight

Congratulations Fr. Liberty:
Our sincere congratulations to Fr. Liberty for being installed as Pastor at St. Jude’s Parish in Detroit. Bishop John Quinn celebrated the special mass on Sunday October 29th that was attended by the 4th Degree Color corps as well as a few Shrine Parishioners. I am sure Fr Liberty appreciated all the support that he received on his special day which also marked the 65th anniversary of St Jude’s parish.

Fund Raising:
As with any organization it depends on the organizations bank balance to operate. Unlike Hall based councils, Parish based councils rely on dues and fund raisers. Expenses go up but the income doesn’t increase very rapidly. Fund raisers are needed to help sustain and maintain bill payments. There are several fund raising opportunities coming up for our council that your participation is needed.
Once again this year, our council and Fr Lynch council in Clawson are teaming up for all you can eat fish fry’s. The following are upcoming dates:
Serving is from 4:30 to 7:00. If you can not volunteer to help, then bring your family out for a fish dinner and help our council.
Another fund raising opportunity is the Pasta dinner scheduled for Saturday November 11th at the Shrine grade School gym. Serving is from 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm.
Our Council voted to participate in the “Keep Christ in Christmas” magnet fund raiser. We will team up Bishop Gallagher 4th Degree Assembly and sell the magnets (pictured above).
The Squires circle will be teaming up with our council for a bottle Drive in late November. Last year this event raised approximately 500 dollars.
State Raffle Tickets:
Another opportunity to raise some money is by selling the State Raffle Tickets. For every book sold, the council will receive 5.00 back.
Major Degree:
Please mark your calendar NOW for a Major Degree coming to District #62. On Saturday November 11th, 2006 there will be a Major Degree at St Mary’s Community Center at 730 S Lafayette in downtown Royal Oak. The First Degree begins at 8:30 am followed by the Second and Third Degrees.
