March 2006

Brother Knights,

Recently I had an opportunity to listen to Bishop John Quinn speak. I was moved by his speech as he compared God’s voice and guidance to a GPS receiver. He said he recently took a trip to Cleveland. He set in his finish location, and then typed in his current location. On his journey, a little voice from the computer/GPS spoke up and told him where to turn and kept him from getting lost. Bishop Quinn also said that he and his traveling partner started to talk and then missed a turn. The GPS voice told them that they were not heading in the right direction, but they didn’t hear it. Soon they realized “the missed turn” and the GPS recalculated and set them on the right path again. I could not help but think about how that relates to us in our everyday world. God has a road map for us through Jesus and the Bible, his voice keeps letting us know if we are heading in the right direction. However, do we listen? Are we too distracted with activities around us and can not hear God’s voice when he is calling? Do we ignore his voice or do we turn the volume  down?

Every now and then we all need a little inspiration in our lives. One way we can get that is at the Catholic Men’s Conference on March 25th at Calihan Hall at the U of D Mercy. Contact John Snyder for tickets.

Finally, I would like to remind all  of our members that the MI drive will be coming up on Palm Sunday weekend. Please consider helping out for an hour or two.

BLUE MASS…….

Our annual Blue Mass was held Sunday, February 26, 2006. Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard and his family were in attendance, as well as the Police and Fire Chiefs from Royal Oak, and the Public Safety Chief from Berkley. There was also a good turnout of other Law Enforcement, Fire, and City personnel. We had a lively reception in the youth room after mass. A big thank you to all who helped out with the reception, and those brother Knights and their families who helped make the day special.

Special Presentation……..

After the Blue Mass, the council presented Msgr. Easton with his Council Jacket. Now everyone will know that he has joined his brother Knights. Along with his jacket, we presented Msgr. Easton with a copy of “Parish Priest : Father Michael McGivney and American Catholicism” so that he can better understand the origins and foundations of our order.

2. Mark Palmer – Deputy Grand Knight

And the alternates in case one of the primary delegates cannot attend:
