Grand Knights Message:
Brother Knights:
The 106th Annual State Convention is history and there are some changes forthcoming. Before I inform you of the changes, I would like to congratulate each of you. It was my honor to receive the Michigan Achievement Award and Star Council award on your behalf in Mackinac. Each of you should be proud of yourselves for your efforts to earn these awards. If we continue to work as a team, next year we could be awarded Supreme Star.
Our Worthy District Deputy and Membership Director Frank Roche was awarded a Knights of Columbus watch for his efforts in District 55. However he fell 4 people short of the Century Club for bringing in 100 new members to this Order. Next year will be an outstanding year for Frank, the District and our Council. Let’s keep up the good work.
At this years convention, we were Blessed to have Fr. Maka attend the convention with us. Fr. Maka had a great time and said he has a better understanding of what the Knights are all about.
Finally, at our last meeting in May, it was mentioned that there was a proposal to raise the per capita by $2.00 a member. That proposal was turned down by the delegates.
Vivat Jesu!
Giovanni Iannotti, Grand Knight
New State Deputy..............
At the State Convention, Thomas Wegener was elected as the next State Deputy. Our Worthy State Deputy elect has served as State Secretary, State Treasurer, State Advocate and State Warden. He will assume his new duties on July 1, 2006. The rest of the State Officers are as follows: State Secretary, John R “Bob” Moody, State Treasurer, Tom Marcetti, State Advocate Michael Malinowski and the new State Warden Robert Fox. Our current State Deputy Kevin McFarland will now have a much deserved rest.
Thank you to all who donated products for our baskets at the State Convention. The “Wines of the World” and “Out to Lunch” were a tremendous hit. All the money raised from the silent auction went to Holy Cross Children services. Our Council has already been asked to donate another basket at the next State Convention in May 2007.
Fr. Liberty’s Reception…
Thank you to Pat and John Iannotti, Mark and Sue Palmer, Tony Rechia, John Snyder, Frank and Debbie Roche and everyone else that helped at the reception for Fr. Liberty. A special thank you to the Squires, Confirmation students, Ladies Guild and Mothers Club for their assistance as well. This was a well attended reception and another sign that working together, we can achieve above and beyond expectations.
Council Officer Elections...
Officer elections will be conducted at our meeting on June 13th. Please make plans now to attend the election in June. You will be able to help determine your Council leadership for next year.
Installation of Council Officers………
The Installation of council Officers are being planned for Tuesday August 8th beginning at 7:30 pm in the Church with a reception following. More details will be forthcoming.
Prayer Request…..
Please continue to keep our Financial Secretary John Kelly in your Prayers. He is currently at Beaumont Hospital with pneumonia. This is hampering his recovery from quadruple bypass surgery. The Doctors are optimistic that once the pneumonia goes away, he will start to be on his way to recovery. On that note, it is with great sadness that I have accepted the resignation of John as our Financial Secretary. A couple of Brother Knights have said they would step-up to the plate and submit their names for Financial Secretary. This position is appointed by Supreme Council for a three year term. We hope to have an appointment by July 1, 2006. Once that appointment is made, that will create a vacancy in other council Officer positions, if you are interested in becoming an Officer, please attend the meeting on June 13th.
Memorial Day Parade…
Thank you to all who participated in the Royal Oak Memorial Day parade. Along with members of our council, the Color Corps from Bishop Gallagher 4th Degree Assembly and Brother Knights from our newest council in the District, Holy Name, helped bring the Knights of Columbus to the forefront of the community once again.
May Recognitions…
Knight of the Month – Reverend S. K. Tomasz Mąka Family of the Month – S. K. Matthew Kennedy Family
Fund Raising Opportunity....
Our Council has been asked to run a concession stand for “Paws With A Cause” on August 12th at Starr Park in Royal Oak. The Council will keep 85% of proceeds raised. Contact Mark Palmer at 248-588-3469 or mark_l_palmer@hotmail.com for more information.
Corporate Communions…..
Please make plans to attend Mass during our Corporate Communions. The next Corporate Communion is scheduled for Sunday June 11th at the 10:45 am Mass.
Insurance Corner…
If you haven’t heard, our Council has a new Insurance representative. His name is Joe Jackman. Joe is very outgoing and he has rolled up his sleeves a couple of times for our council. He has helped with the gardening and Fr. Liberty’s reception party. If Joe contacts you, please welcome him like you welcome others to our council. Contact Joe at 248-514-6264.
Parish Gardens…..
Our council is once again responsible for the flowers around the front of the Church in front of the grotto. Dawn, Jacob and Thomas Kennedy planted flowers during our last meeting and the Knights helped out after the meeting. Let’s all take a few minutes to keep the area tidied up during the summer. Our council has the biggest and most visible area of responsibility.
Blood Donation………
If you periodically give blood, contact Mark Palmer and let him know your schedule. Every time a member of the council donates blood, it needs to be recorded so reports can be submitted quarterly to the state. When you come back from giving blood, contact Mark and let him know. You can contact Mark at 248-588-3469 or mark_l_palmer@hotmail.com
News submissions are invited from all our Brothers, Officers, Directors and Committee Chairs to be included in our newsletter.
