February 2006

Brother Knights,

We have had a busy January. I would like to thank everyone who helped during the all night monstrance visit. This includes: Marshal Herb Stacier, all of the Color Corp Assemblies, members from District Councils, our District Deputy, Monsignor Easton, Jan Defour from the Archdiocese Vocations office, parish members and of course all of our Brother Knights in our council who helped. This was a great event and turnout.

On Friday January 13th, we participated in the District Vocations dinner. It was an honor to have our Priests, Sisters, Seminarians and Religious present for this dinner. I would also like to thank our State Chaplain Fr. LeBouf for attending this event. I would also like to thank Brother Knights Ed Ching and George Walters who helped a lot in kitchen to prepare the meal.

Finally, I would like to remind all  of our members that the MI drive will be coming up quicker than we think, just a few weeks away. Please consider helping out for an hour or two during that weekend (Palm Sunday). More information will be coming out shortly.

Just What is Corporate Communion?................by Brother Terry Kilbride

The word corporate by definition is a united group.  The Knights of Columbus celebrate a Corporate Communion to bring all Knights together to demonstrate unity for the celebration of the Mass and Eucharist.  The Assembly Color Corp participates so it is a very festive occasion. The council at the National Shrine of the Little Flower has over 100 Knights.  We encourage all to make these events a future priority.

Congratulations Monsignor……

On January 7th, our Pastor Monsignor William Easton became a Knight of Columbus. Standing with him are David Dean, George Libby, and Matthew Leslie who also became members of the Knights of Columbus. I want to congratulate them all and encourage them to continue in their Knighthood journey and become Fourth Degree members.

A Knight for Life…………..

On Sunday January 29th our District Deputy and Financial Secretary had the honor and pleasure of presenting Monsignor Easton with his Honorary Life membership card with the Knights of Columbus. Congratulations Monsignor and we are looking forward to your advancement to the upper degrees.

BLUE MASS…….

Our annual Blue Mass is scheduled for Sunday February 26th at the 10:45 Mass at Shrine. This is the communities opportunity to thank our Police and Fire personnel for their dedication, care, and watchfulness for everyone. They are on-duty 24

hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. Come out and help say THANK YOU. Following the mass there will be a potluck luncheon in the Main Room in the Conference Center. Hope to see you there.

Fund Raising………….................................…by Mark Palmer, DGK

As you may or may not be aware, we have been receiving many requests for financial assistance. On top of our RSVP program to help a seminarian, we have been asked to help defer the cost of several youths that attended World Youth Day, help to offset the cost of the Challenge Girls mission trip to Mexico, as well as several private individuals who have requested assistance from us. These are but a few of the requests for financial assistance that we have received. We have been making efforts to raise funds to help those in need that come to use seeking assistance. Most of the fund raisers have been successful, but some have not. We have been blessed with the opportunity to partner with Council #4188 in Clawson in their fish fry dinners. We need people to help with these fund raisers. Give us a little of your time, either to assist us with the preparation, or come out and support you brother knights by participating in these events. We need your participation to make them work. If you have any idea for fundraising ideas that you would like to present, and are willing to take charge of from planning to execution, please come to a council meeting and share the idea with us. We Brother Knights will give you the support you need to make your idea work.

May They Rest in Peace………

With the recent passing of the loved ones of several of our Brother Knights, I would suggest that each of you take a few minutes to say the following prayer:

Prayer of  St. Gertrude the Great

Our Lord dictated the following prayer to St. Gertrude the Great to release 1,000 Souls from Purgatory each time it is said.

"Eternal Father, I offer Thee the Most Precious Blood of Thy Divine Son, Jesus, in union with the masses said throughout the world today, for all the holy souls in Purgatory, for sinners everywhere, for sinners in the universal church, those in my own home and within my family. Amen."

Approval and recommendation (sgd.) M. Cardinal Pahiarca at Lisbon, Portugal, on March 4, 1936.

Fraternal Benefit Night Coming………
