Grand Knights Message...........

Brother Knights:

We have all heard the phrase “March comes in like a lion, and goes out like a lamb.” That may be true when it comes to weather, but with our council, it is just the opposite.

First I would like to congratulate Brother and Sir Knights: Aaron Dean, Norm Brault and Tony Recchia. All three were exemplified into the Fourth Degree, the highest in the order, on March 12th 2006.

On March 20th, over 163 bowls of soup were served at our Soup Supper with the Shrine Religious formation students, parents and teachers. The Knights were asked to mark it on their schedules for next year as well. Many thanks to the Knights that helped also Judy Maten, Janie Lynch and Colleen Marchese for all of their coordination and efforts to make this a successful dinner.

On March 28th, 30 Knights and their spouses  attended a Benefits night. This was a very informative evening. By knowing some of the benefits of our order, this will help our recruiting efforts.

Speaking of recruiting, our Membership Director Frank Roche is close to a century mark in recruiting new members. He just needs a few more to put him at 100 plus, let’s do our part and help Frank get inducted into the “century club” at the State Convention on Mackinac Island in May. Let’s go out and ask one more person each and support Frank in his efforts. He deserves it!

Finally, saving the best for last. On March 29th 2006, Founders Day, our Worthy State Deputy, Kevin MacFarland, was the special and honored guest at a First Degree Installation that brought 20 new members into the Michigan Knights of Columbus. The Degree was performed by our Degree team lead by Brother Knight Tom Moll. The team performed in an outstanding fashion. Our State Deputy said that he was happy with the team, especially using the new format. Later in the evening our District Deputy Frank Roche, was instructed to submit paperwork for Degree team certification. Congratulations to Tom and the entire Degree Team for an outstanding job.

Annual MI Drive...……….

The Annual MI Drive will be occurring the weekend of April 7-9th.  Go to our website at www.kofc12408.org for the most current information.

Please bring in your ideas at our meetings in April as to how to distribute the funds raised in the annual event. Last year, the council was able to divide the funds in three ways to needy charities. Bring you thoughts and ideas to our meetings this month.

The Italian connection.....

will be at it again on Saturday April 29th.  Grand Knight John Iannotti, Deputy Grand Knight Mark Palmer and Brother and Sir Knight Tony Recchia will be in the kitchen with their own “special ingredients” for our first annual pasta dinner at the Shrine Grade School cafeteria. Dinner will be served from 5pm-7pm and everyone is invited. Because it is also First Communion, there will be “reserved tables” for the First Communion children and their families. This is guaranteed to be a dinner “you don’t wanna miss!” To volunteer to help, call John Iannotti at 586-731-1779 or Mark Palmer at 248-588-3469.

State Convention...............

The annual State Convention is just around the corner. Your delegates that will be attending are John Iannotti, & Mark Palmer. Fr Maka will also be making the trip this year to the Island. This year our council will be donating 2 baskets for the silent auction. The first will be “Wines of the World” and the second will be “Out to Lunch”. The first is self explanatory but the second will consist of girt certificates from various fast food restaurants. Please contact Pat Iannotti at 586-731-1779 to help out. Help is needed to put the basket together and purchase items.
