From the Editor . . . . Brian Malover Editorial Comment Vote . . . . /H /H /H August 3 August 3rd is the Primary Election Day for our State. Carlo Ginotti, a 3rd Degree council member, is running for State Representative (Rep.) from the 26th District (Royal Oak and Madson Heights). He is endorsed by "The Right To Life of Michigan" (see your "Michigan Catholic") and campaigns for the Sanctity of Marriage. As a Christian and a Knight he represents the priciples for which we stand. As editor, I urge you to consider his qualifications to represent us as a State Representative. Please review the candidates & vote your conscious in the primary election on August 3. (The Knights of Columbus does not endorse any political candidate, all expressed opinions are solely that of the editor.)

Mary, Mary, Quite Contrary . . . . . . . . How Does "Our" Garden Grow? Not very well, according to Fr. Liberty & Edie, the Garden Group President. Our councils participation in the Adopt-A-Garden program has fallen short. The weeds are winning. Our commitment to maintain the garden beds in the front of the church has been dismal since the Garden Party in May. Let's get on the ball and have some volunteers obliterate "the invading enemy". We have lost our volunteer nameplate for maintaining the beds. Let us earn it back! Contact Frank Roche to commit some time with mother nature and make our church attractive to the eye and show visitors we care. We are a National Shrine!
4th Degree & Color Corp . . . John Kelly Congratulations to our three new Sir Knights, Mark Palmer*, Patrick Roche and John Snyder who were exemplified into the 4th Degree of our order on Saturday, June 26, 2004 at the Sterling Inn in Sterling Heights. They join the following: Chris Buono* Andy Emond* Steve Fox Chuck Hochberg Frank Iannotti John Iannotti* Larry Kehoe John Kelly* Terry Kilbride Fr. Robert Liberty Frank Roche Dick Tschirhart* (* Members of the 4th Degree Color Corps)
Shrine is becoming the council with the largest number of members in Bishop Gallagher Assembly #0482. With the number of Sir Knights joining the Color Corps, we have made a dramatic presentation for our fellow parishioners. Thanks to Shrine's efforts, Bishop Gallagher, who is the smallest assembly in the State, won 2nd place last year in allocating hours spent on Color Corp assigments. The next exemplification to the 4th Degree and Color Corp will be in March 2005. Applications and information may be obtained by contacting Sir Knight John Kelly.
Council Website . . . . Thanks to the efforts of Mark Palmer, our council website is in the near completion and will be soon be available to all members. You will be notified of the web address once it has been confirmed. The website will contain considerable information about our council including current events and activities, officers roster and membership info. Our website will also contain the most current edition of our council newsletter. This will be an effective tool for securing new members and posting late breaking news for our members.
Jail Ministry . . . In the Fall weeks we will be working with Sister Peggy in support of a jail ministry. We will be collecting backpacks for the children who have parents who are incarcerated. More details will be coming as the program develops.
